Abstract:

Introduction The welfare of physically-disabled individuals has been paid attention to by God and pointed out in Quran verses. Quranic instructions have come up with some principles to provide suitable situation for their welfare. To reach this, others’ duties like their family members and governmental organizations can be inferred in Quran verses; therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the welfare for physically-disabled individuals from the perspective of Quran. In this review with the conceptual analysis and document analysis type, the verses concerning the welfare of physically-disabled individuals were first extracted; then, verses were categorized according to the objectives of the study, and the influence of Quran verses on the welfare of physically-disabled individuals was analyzed. Conclusion Quranic verses paid close attention to physically-disabled individuals’ social, materialistic, physical, mental, and spiritual welfare. Considering disability as a divine test leads to mental welfare of the physically-disabled individuals, and elimination of the need for Jihad leads to their physical welfare. Also, the presence of the physically-disabled individuals in the society is considered the solution given by God for their social welfare and financial support is a sign of Gods’ attention to their materialistic needs. Respecting and honoring the physicallydisabled individuals is also a sign of attention given by Quranic verses to their psychological welfare.

Abstract:

particularly prone to development of depression. 100 male veterans (39 injured by chemical and 61 by non-chemical warfare) with 30% to 70% of physical disability were compared with 100 age- and sex-matched individuals selected from general population serving as comparison group. The diagnosis of depression was made according to the DSM-IV criteria utilizing the standard Zung depression questionnaire along with an interview. Participants were aged between 25 and 75 (mean: 38) years. The prevalence of depression in disabled veterans (71%) was significantly (p<0.0001; RR: 2.0 [CI95%: 1.5–2.6]) higher than that in the comparison group (36%). The prevalence of depression in chemical warfare victims (92%) was significantly (p<0.0001; RR: 1.6 [CI95%: 1.3–2.0]) higher than those who suffered from non-chemical injury (57%). Chemical warfare victims also suffered from a more severe depression than non-chemically injured victims (p<0.05). This study showed disabled veterans are prone to profound depression and chemically injured veterans were found to be more vulnerable

Abstract:

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of social group work interventions withcognitive behavioral approach on social competence in physically disabled adolescents. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test and control groupdesign. The statistical population included physically disabled adolescents aged 13-18 yearswho were referred to the Center of Rehabilitation and Vocational Training in Sanandaj City, Iran, to participate in educational programs. To this end, 30 physically disabled adolescentswere selected based on inclusion criteria and were divided into 2 matching groups (interventionand control). Social competence questionnaire was completed by both groups at the beginningand at the end of training. The intervention group was trained for 8 weeks in terms of socialcompetence, whereas the control group received no special training. The obtained data wereanalyzed using SPSS. The Chi-square, Independent samples t-test, and Paired t test were usedto verify the study assumptions. Results: Comparing the intervention group with the controls before and after training reveledthat teaching patients with cognitive behavioral strategies had a significant impact on increasingtheir social competence (Mean± SD, 181. 66± 17. 88 versus 120. 93± 10. 47; P=0. 0001) and itsdimensions (cognitive, behavioral, emotional and motivational) of the former group. Discussion: It seems that one of the efficient methods to increase social competence amongphysically disabled adolescents is cognitive behavioral therapy within the social group work. Thus, coaches and teachers of this group are recommended to use this method, to increase theirsocial competence and subsequently increasing their presence in public areas.

Abstract:

Achieving mental health is one of the most basic guidelines of religious teachings, and this will not be possible except with divine attitude. Physically-disabled individuals are one of the most important target groups that can achieve optimal mental attitudes through correct attitudes. Therefore, this research seeks to answer the question “ what are the attitudes, presented in religious teachings, for physically-disabled individuals to achieve mental health? ” In this research, verses and narratives about attitudes of physically-disabled people were extracted and analyzed through descriptive and analytical method. Religious attitudes toward improving mental health of physically-disabled people are as follows: 1. Physical weakness is one of the examples of divine exams, 2. Problems are relative; there may be more harm than low-grade disease, 3. God has considered many revenues to the physically-disabled people, 4. God is easy when judging physically-disabled individuals. 5. Physical disability is not a sign of sinfulness of a person, 6. Physical disabled has the chance in avoiding sins, 7. Physically-disabled people should not compare themselves with others. The best way to provide the right attitude to physically-disabled people is to have religious attitudes based on which: firstly, they have a positive attitude towards themselves and their god and set of being; secondly, they find this world a place in which they must struggle; thirdly, they enjoy their life by paying attention to their abilities without comparing themselves with others. Fourthly, they would be safe from possible psychological problems. Fifthly, they will be a very useful force for the community.

Abstract:

Objective: Separating disabled children from the community not only imposes high costs on society, but also makes profound affective problems in the children, prohibits development of their capabilities and  adjustment to normal environment. For past several decades, the integration method in education has been highly considered. The integrated education has also been implemented in Iran for students with visual, auditory and disabled disorders, but the acceptance of this education from normal students has not been so far investigated. Method: 502 normal students of integrated schools and 120 students of normal schools in Tehran were selected by cluster random sampling from students at grades three to five, and their acceptance was tested by the Acceptance Scale, and the information was analyzed. Results: Partially hearing students were more accepted than disabled students both in the integrated and normal schools, and in general, the acceptance was better in integrated schools than normal schools. Also, the acceptance of partially hearing boys was better than their girl peers. Conclusion: It appears that the integrated method for disabled children, especially those with mild disability, is beneficial and crucial to better scholastic achievement, adaptation with normal children, normalization in the community, and recognition of their special needs.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between perfectionism and burnout among physically-motionally disabled elite athletes. The sample consisted of 118 athletes (mean age 24.83±5.74 yrs, athletic experiences 12.43±6.53 yrs, and competitive experiences 8.39±4.40 yrs) who attended in Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010. The participants voluntarily completed the Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (Haase & Prapavessis, 2004) and the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (Raedeke & Smith, 2001). The results of Pearson correlation coefficients indicated that (1) positive perfectionism had significant and negative relationships with the reduced sense of accomplishment, emotional/physical exhaustion, devaluation, and total level of burnout, and (2) negative perfectionism had significant relationship with only the reduced sense of accomplishment. The results of regression analysis indicated that positive perfectionism was the only determinant of total level of burnout. The findings indicate that the positive perfectionism tendencies are effective in preventing ruining effects of burnout in physically disabled elite athletes.

Abstract:

Today, within the scope of protective victimology, we are witnessing the specialization of supports aimed at victims, such that vulnerable victims, as a particular spectrum of victims who deserve assistance and support appropriate to their vulnerability, have garnered specific attention in protective victimology. Therefore, it can be said that disabled victims, as a type of vulnerable victims, have special conditions. This is because their disability not only provides a suitable context for them to be at risk of victimization and creates a suitable readiness for the commission of crime by the offender, but also with the occurrence of victimization, they suffer an additional type of harm by experiencing victimization. The findings of this article indicate that in the Iranian legal system, various situational, social, and participatory prevention measures for the victimization of disabled individuals are included in different laws. The data and information have been examined using library and field methods, followed by their description and analysis.

Abstract:

Background: The oro-dental condition of mentally and physically disabled individuals is one of the important concepts in preventive dentistry. The aim of this study is to evaluate those conditions in these two groups in Zahedan (Iran). Methods and Materials: This survey was compared the oro-dental conditions in 94 mentally handicapped and 104 physically handicapped. The mentally handicapped group subdivided into three groups: educable (10), trainable (45), and isolated (39). The physically handicapped group consists of three groups: physically impaired (28), hearing impaired (44), and visually impaired (32). The oro-dental health index consisted of DMFT, crowding, anterior and posterior teeth attrition, oral health index consisting of debris index (D1-s) and calculus index (C1-s). Results: Mean DMFT in 7-14 year-olds mentally and physically disabled persons were 3.2 and 3.7 , respectively in 15-25 year-olds were 2.7 and 3.6 and in 26 year-olds and upper was 5.7 and 3.7 respectively which did not show significant correlation by Mann-Whitney test. It was 5, 4.1 and 1.6 in educable, trainable and isolated mentally handicapped which was significantly meaningful (P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between disability and crowding, anterior and posterior attrition index. The D1-s and C1-s was significantly higher in mentally disabled groups than those in other disabled groups. Conclusions: Specific consideration to oro-dental complications of disabled groups and to set up an efficient managing system is advisable.
